Paper Plastic Fabric > Interior design for exhibition at Gallery Nova, Dutch Design Week 2009.
Together with Sofie Hoenselaars I designed a space in the back of this gallery, excisting of paper tubes.
Within these tubes the works of 10 designers were exhibited. I also designed the flyer for this expo.
It is to be seen in the 'printed matter' part of this site.

Souvenir for Eindhoven > Icon Elias & Mignot in the 'Canon van Eindhoven'
This icon is called 'Power Source' and was designed for 'De Negende'. Design company Edhv
invited 23 designers from Eindhoven to make a souvenir as a result of the icons in 'De canon
van Eindhoven' ; a book about the history of this city. I designed the 'Powers Source' to visualize
the industrial revolution in Eindhoven, because Elias & Mignot were the founders of it there.
This little machine eventually is a lighter for a match, to also visualise the arrival of light
-the philips bulb- in the city.

Waterland > Galerie op de Rotte, Rotterdam
This roof in the river 'de Rotte' I created together with Job Martens and Bjørn Andreassen.
It represents the look and feel of the Netherlands when flooded. We think it could be nice and cosy!
It was an assignment for Galerie op de Rotte, an Art Collaboration in Rotterdam.
Next a Dutch rhyming text that gives an expression of the positive Dutch mentality,
even if the water would rise;
wij waterlanders weten al eeuwen om te gaan met het water om ons heen,
en ook deze situatie maken we ons volledig eigen,
deur in de dakkapel, steigertje eraan, bootje erbij, proost.
vrijheid blijheid zoals men kent uit vroeger tijd!
hoe deel je je woning in in dit nieuwe land,
als je dakkapel ineens je voordeur wordt,
de zolder de functie van woonkamer inneemt,
en je achtertuin niet meer begrenst wordt door schutting of heg.
de positieve nederlander ondergaat deze verandering,
als een trotse strijder uit de oudheid,
met de allerminste moeite slaagt hij met vlag en wimpel,
en met kop en schouders torent hij uit boven deze strijd!

Binnen Buiten > Art project for the municipality of Eindhoven at 'Doe de Dommel'
For 'Doe de Dommel', a voluntary project, Sofie Hoenselaars and I designed 2 big signs for both
entrances of a bike tunnel, saying; 'binnen' -inside/wihin- and 'buiten' -outside-. We wanted to let
people ask them selves where they feel like being when going through a tunnel. Are you in.. or
are you out? It was mented to let people 'be' in the tunnel, instead of only passing through. In the
tunnel we also put up 50 smaller signs, the same as signs in shops; open - closed, so people could
flip them, reacting on our question.

This wooden book cupboard has a perfectly fitting place for every book I have made untill now.
Size : 46 x 34 x 12 cm

Platform 21 is hacking Ikea
The Bertil chair, one of Ikea`s most sold products all over the world, three identical chairs with three
identical instructions, how to put them together? Using UV powder it becomes possible to show
fingerprints left behind during assemblation. Lighting the chairs using blacklight lamps they suddenly
become different from eachother. A project together with Bjørn Andreassen.

Airmail
These are pictures of a room filled with photo's and little paper airoplanes. I created it to visualize
a small film about the distance between my grandparents during the first year after the birth of my father.
The letters were all air-mail, so I hung the pictures of that time of their lives in the air. They all flew,
either to Holland or Argentina.

What began as a project to assemble the people of a street, became a nice designed book named
Binnenstebuiten. When the reader literally tears apart the pages, he will have a colorfull look inside
the houses of the inhabitants. (Eindhovens Dagblad)

After theoretic research into the diversity op perception, Kim Hemmes designed a model that visualizes the stages perception goes through in the brain. Subject matter and design provide a thought-provoking look into the multiformity of perception. (copy: graduation catalogue Design Academy Eindhoven)
Dutch explanation from the graduation catalogue > Kijken>Zien>Interpreteren > Waarneming leidt tot gedachten en gedachten tot ideeën en concepten. Maar hoe divers is de waarneming eigenlijk? Kim Hemmes heeft, na theoretisch onderzoek, via een zelfontworpen model de stappen die de waarneming in het hoofd aflegt - kijken, zien en interpreteren - visueel bloot gelegd. Kim liet een aantal mensen een film zien over een gewone dag. De indrukken die zij uit de film haalden, kwamen overeen met de theoretische verwachtingen, maar gingen veel verder dan vast te leggen zou zijn in een concluderend model. ‘De waarneming is zo divers en diepgaand dat juist het onderwerp, en daarmee dit onderzoek, inspirerend werkt.’ Vervolgens maakte ze een film waarin ze je meeneemt in het hele proces.
